Scientometrics

Beyond providing traditional library services, the Klebelsberg Library of the University of Szeged considers managing and mapping scientometric information to support USZ citizens (faculty members, researchers and students) as one of its main tasks. The launching of our new scientometrics service is in line with this commitment.

The Hungarian National Scientific Bibliography (MTMT)

Our Library keeps records of the bibliographic data of publications resulting from the academic and research activity conducted at the USZ in the University Bibliography. This database holds the bibliographic data provided by authors up to December 31, 2010.

In 2010, the University joined the database of the Hungarian National Scientific Bibliography (MTMT) which since then has become the basic, and actually the sole instrument for recording, validating and certifying the academic activity of faculty members and researchers.

What does MTMT offer to faculty members and researchers?

• personal scientific bibliography;

• unified registry of citations;

• a tool for preparing grant applications and reports;

• access to widely known and used import-export formats;

• a link pointing directly to the author’s (selected) list of publications in MTMT (to be inserted into personal homepages);

• a data source required or preferred by MTA (Hungarian Academy of Sciences), ODT (Hungarian Doctoral Council), MAB (Hungarian Accredation Committee), OTKA (Hungarian Scientific Research Fund) etc., and also the University itself (e.g. in the doctoral (PhD) procedure).

How does MTMT work?

Entering bibliographic data into MTMT is the responsibility of authors.

For assistance with regard to the usage of the database please contact your institutional MTMT administrator or our colleagues at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

We would like to call the attention of authors to the fact that for any further authentication of publications (for any purpose), data must be exported from widely known and accepted databases, like Web of Science or Scopus.

Academic procedures, validating data and the "Publicatio" Repository

The lists of publications and the scientometric tables, which have to be submitted for various academic procedures, are verified by the Klebelsberg Library, based on MTMT. These bibliographic data can only be authenticated if the publications themselves can be verified. For this purpose, following international practice, the USZ Klebelsberg Library provides a repository for publications. The "Publicatio" Repository is designed to preserve the complete/full text versions of published artistic and academic works (studies, articles, monographs, works of art etc.) created at the USZ. Access to these works is bound to different levels of authentication and is strictly controlled. Registered users of the Repository can upload their works, already published and recorded in MTMT, as a pdf file. The files will become visible in the repository within 5 work days, after librarians have completed the bibliographic data and set appropriate access rights.

On December 16, 2013 the Senate of the USZ issued a decree regarding the storage of academic or artistic publications and works related to the University of Szeged in the “Publicatio” Repository. The text of the Senate Decree is also available in English.

If you need assistance in terms of how to use the MTMT or the “Publicatio” databases, don't hesitate to contact our colleagues at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to arrange a personal, English language consultation.

The PhD procedure and MTMT

Before submitting the doctoral dissertation, candidates have to record the bibliographic data of their publications in MTMT, and create a separate list (preferably marked as ODT/MAB) of the ones related to the dissertation. They also have to request the verification of these data from the USZ Klebelsberg Library, by writing to This email address is being protected from spambots. If a publication does not have a DOI (document object identifier) number, and cannot be accessed through an accepted scientific database (Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed etc.), it has to be uploaded to the “Publicatio” Repository, which will serve as the source of validation.

The certificate of academic activity, as required by the doctoral procedure, is the verified list of publications, completed with scientometric data, printed from MTMT. This will be an attachment of the summary of the doctoral dissertation.

The summary and the dissertation itself both have to be uploaded to the SZTE Repository of Dissertations. (The dissertation also has to be printed, and four copies have to be submitted to the Faculty responsible for the given scientific field.)

When after the defense of the dissertation the identifying number of the doctoral certificate becomes available, the USZ Klebelsberg Library will provide the document with a DOI number, and create an MTMT record of the dissertation.
